Grand programme organised by My Bharat and Cholo Paltai Club; Kendriya Vidyalaya campus resonates with patriotic dance performances, youth awareness initiatives and value-based messages
Barak Bani Digital Desk, Sribhumi, July 8, 2026: With the objective of nurturing patriotism, national consciousness, leadership qualities, social responsibility and a spirit of community service among the younger generation, the birth anniversary of eminent educationist, visionary thinker, distinguished statesman and one of the most influential personalities in modern Indian public life, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, was celebrated with due dignity and enthusiasm in Sribhumi district.
The programme was organised by My Bharat, the Government of India’s youth development initiative, in collaboration with Cholo Paltai Club at the premises of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sribhumi. The event not only highlighted the ideals of nationalism and value-based education but also encouraged young people to actively participate in constructive nation-building activities.
The Kendriya Vidyalaya campus wore a festive look from the morning, with the participation of students, teachers, youth volunteers, representatives of various social and cultural organisations, and distinguished guests. The venue came alive with patriotic songs, an elegantly decorated stage and an atmosphere reflecting national pride throughout the day.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries. This was followed by floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, with participants observing a moment of respect in his memory. Speakers reflected on various aspects of his remarkable personality, highlighting his contributions to education, his role in the reconstruction of post-Independence India, and his vision for preserving the unity and integrity of the nation.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers described Dr. Mookerjee as much more than a political leader. They portrayed him as a farsighted educationist, a nationalist thinker, an able administrator and a dedicated public servant. They observed that his vision for strengthening the education system, building national character and inspiring the youth remains highly relevant in the present era. They further emphasised that alongside technological advancement, moral values, social responsibility and patriotism are essential for shaping responsible citizens.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Biswajit Bhattacharya, Associate Professor of Karimganj College and President of the Wings for Youth NGO, stated that the future of the nation rests in the hands of today’s youth. He remarked that becoming an ideal citizen requires not only academic excellence but also learning from the lives and ideals of great personalities. He urged students to develop leadership qualities, human values and a spirit of selfless service for the betterment of society and the nation.
Among the Special Guests, Dr. Tanushree Ghosh, Assistant Professor of Rabindra Sadan Women’s College, stressed that the true purpose of education extends beyond earning degrees. According to her, education should mould individuals into responsible, aware and compassionate citizens. She encouraged students to study the lives and contributions of eminent personalities and draw inspiration from their ideals.
Gaurav Panthi, District Youth Officer of My Bharat, delivered an informative presentation on youth empowerment and the role of young people in national development. He explained that My Bharat serves as an important platform offering opportunities in volunteerism, skill development, leadership training, social initiatives and participation in various national programmes. Encouraging students to register on the My Bharat portal, he said that the active participation of the youth is vital for the country’s progress.
Mahendra Singh, Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, addressed the students, stating that schools are not merely centres for academic learning but also institutions where values, discipline and patriotism are nurtured. He observed that programmes of this nature play a significant role in the holistic development of students.
Renowned dance instructor Payel Chakraborty Kuri and Shatabdi Das, Secretary of Wings for Youth, also addressed the gathering. They encouraged young people to embrace social responsibility, preserve cultural values and emerge as positive leaders in society.
One of the major attractions of the event was a patriotic dance competition held after the discussion session. Students captivated the audience with vibrant performances set to patriotic songs, beautifully portraying love for the nation, India’s rich cultural heritage, unity in diversity and the spirit of national pride. The audience applauded enthusiastically, while the dignitaries praised the participants for their creativity, dedication and artistic excellence.
Another significant segment of the programme focused on youth awareness and development. During this session, students were introduced to various initiatives under My Bharat, including volunteer activities, leadership development programmes, skill enhancement training, environmental conservation, social service and opportunities to participate in nation-building projects. The speakers also interacted with students, answering their questions and offering valuable guidance on career planning, leadership and social responsibility.
In the concluding session, the winners of the patriotic dance competition were honoured with trophies, mementoes, certificates of appreciation and prizes by the distinguished guests. Appreciation certificates were also presented to all participants in recognition of their enthusiastic involvement. The joyous celebrations of the winners, coupled with the pride of parents and teachers, created an emotional and memorable atmosphere.
In their closing remarks, the organisers stated that the purpose of celebrating Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s birth anniversary extended far beyond commemorating a great national leader.
